“I love my "Herself" dearly, but she destroys knives. I knew this before I married her. When I met her, she used her dishwasher as a "knife rack" constantly rewashing her Chicago Cutlery "knives" (or what was left of them), until the wooden handles went to an Albino Maple look. There were visible small "notches" in the edges. In her mind, if all you have is a knife, you're good to go. Cat food cans, ripping through staples on shipment boxes, string, wire- you name it- that's what the kitchen knives are for. Are you getting where I am going here? I bought her the standard utility version of this knife previously, and it too, resides in the dishwasher (ready at a moment's notice, I am sure). But after 9 years, it is still in great shape, notwithstanding that it did once fall on the heater/dryer element inside the dishwasher and melted the handle halfway through. Looks and works like a thumb-rest for her. (see picture) I got her this one here as half a joke- she didn't need a new one, and also as a "back up" if the other one ever pooped out. (not likely) Besides- this price is quite the bargain, let me assure you. Now we have two Titanium knives in our "Amana Knifeholder'. I have my Wusthof knives, I have my Kyocera Ceramics. And kind of like my Sawzall, she is not allowed to touch those. She merrily goes through the day trying to destroy these Titanium knives- and they just take it! They remain quite sharp, and after many years use on the first one that I bought, it still does not need sharpening. She should have one, maybe two. You decide.”
