Outstanding jacket for the price. Amazingly light and warm.

I purchased this down sweater/jacket as a backpacking insulation layer. That is to say, it was purchased to wear as an axillary sleeping layer, for those frosty mornings around camp, and for warmth under a rain shell when it comes down to grappling with the elements when things turn epic. I consider it to be well worth the $85. I previously had purchased a Patagonia highly reviewed model earlier this winter from another site the bargain price of $99. I was so disappointed in the thin non-weather proof material and thin insulation that promptly I sent it back. The Brooks Range was less expensive, has the Pertex shell, has a tougher shell material, and I like the fleece lined collar. The hood snugs up nice with the adjustments. I usually purchase a L, but the XL was only available and at 6', 165lbs with long arms and broad shoulders I am happy with the fit. It stuffs up compact enough for backpacking and the Pertex Quantum was an extra weather resistant blessing. I have an idea I will be grabbing it for the winter "before bedtime take the dogs out" walks too.

I have no problem with this product, but returned it because I was looking for -40 level insulation. This will work great as a standalone or insulating layer in something like -15 C or above. I especially appreciated the light weight and the ripstop quality of the external material. Good jacket, but not for me.
