Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Verified Buyer Reviewed by D. from Southeast US on Tuesday, June 30, 2015First off, the overall quality of this one is pretty much at the top of its class. Details: Almost effortless one hand deployment and closure, superior blade steel, beautiful and unique milling of the blade faces to cosmetically augment the deep hollow grind, sweet push button lock release AND firm/precise blade locking, spot on centered blade when folded, CF scale inserts fitting nicely to the SS frame, no nonsense robust SS clip....and all materials and labor provided right here in the USA. BUT, I am personally just not drawn to this knife's general appearance or the fairly plain carbon fiber scale inserts. Regarding the general appearance - most all of the stainless steel is bead blasted chalky dull grey (the clip is the only polished SS piece) - many folks are fans of this finish yet on this knife I am not (I have others, both SS and Ti, that wear this finish well and look good). Regarding the carbon fiber - my example has to be some of the most plain CF I've yet seen - no depth contrast or elements of 'glow' or light contrast and very little surface texture. By comparison, I have a Browning Black Label (made in China) whose carbon fiber work is among the best I've seen and retails at half the price of this Independence version. The solution for this knife that has so much going for it innately (good bones) is to customize it. At a minimum - replace the scales with another material having character and beauty. A step further - either polish and/or engrave the SS main body. The blade is easily one of the prettiest around and needs nothing wearing its handsome bead blasted finish and milled faces quite well. So, a really great knife overall, REALLY great - while also a prime candidate for cosmetic customizing. Of course this judgement is one of subjectivity - we all know what we like to see and what we don't. You may just adore this one in stock form and you would be correct in doing so - to each his/her own. All this said, this knife is so good as is that it would be difficult for any man or woman to pass it up (especially with STP pricing and customer service) as a high quality made in the USA winner with its beauty being in the eye of the beholder.
Reviewed by Mainer from OOB, Maine on Sunday, February 24, 2013I have had this knife for a year and carry it everyday. It is so well made and the 154cm steel blade is great. I saw STP price and bought two more before they are not available anymore. It is 100% USA made which is hard to find these days.
Reviewed by BB from OOB. ME on Saturday, February 23, 2013I have had one of these for a year and when I saw Sierra Trading Post's price I bought two more. Worth the full retail.
Reviewed by Rick from OOB, Maine on Friday, February 22, 2013This knife exudes quality at a great STP price. Grab them before they are gone.
Reviewed by James G from Chestnut Hill, PA on Saturday, February 16, 2013This knife is simply beautifully made. Carbon fiber is excellent quality. Previous reviewer said they had an issue with blade sharpness, but this wasn't my experience. Blade is VERY sharp. Great knife and buy. Awesome sierra price. Purchased a couple more.
