Buy one size up, but it only has a slight different in size since I just got the exchange from Medium to Large. My son is a small 12-yr-old; Medium size usually gives him lots of room, but this Montana Jacket Medium size reminds him of his coat when he was 8. Arms run short, but body is way too wide and bulky. When they designed this jacket, what made them think that children are short & very fat and have very short arms? Weird. Though, nice fabric on the outside, but it has kind of cheap look & feel on the inside, and not so much of insulation. The price is appropriate for a weird design and sizing.

This is a very nice jacket. I got the XL which was supposed to be a size 18/20 and it was smaller on my child than the size 14/16 from REI that I was replacing (sleeves are very short). I am keeping it for my other son to grow into since it was such a good deal, but I was disappointed that the sizing was way off.

this was a really nice jacket. i feel it runs true to size, but found this coat to be redundant in weight to what
i would consider a mom's version of an appropriate snow coat (meaning one with a hood and a longer body).
details are classic... really nicely made.
