Most Helpful 5-Star Review

I gave this 5 stars because it is cheap, works and makes a huge difference for float tube fly fishing. I now use 2 rods when tubing: 1 with floating line for indicator nymphing or streamers and the other with a shooting head system with 3 heads: int, type 3 and t-8. This way I can cover most poten... I basically liked the rod holder for the short time I had it, i.e., until I had to lunge after my fin --I reviewed those too--that had come off and was about to float out of reach down a very slow river at dusk just as I was getting ready to get out of the water. It wasn't until I was collecting all of my things on shore that I noticed the small landing net and wading staff with lanyards which I had looped over the rod holder were both missing ... along with the top part of the rod holder. That was disappointing and it was getting too dark to go looking for them at that point. Anyways, I attribute the loss in part to my own clumsiness but also in large part to the problems I was having from the get go in getting the two pieces you see at the top of the picture to seat together correctly. So I'm assuming they must not have been 'locked in' at the time of the aforementioned lunge. But they seemed like they were so I don't know what else to tell ya.

I gave this 5 stars because it is cheap, works and makes a huge difference for float tube fly fishing. I now use 2 rods when tubing: 1 with floating line for indicator nymphing or streamers and the other with a shooting head system with 3 heads: int, type 3 and t-8. This way I can cover most potential water depths and conditions conveniently. This setup is a lot more fun and productive than just using 1 rod.

That said, this holder is a little flimsy and might break at some point. Additionally, you have to protect your rod and reel from falling out the holder by creating a leash. I use a retractable coiled plastic line and attach it to the Caddis Float Tube Rod Holder by drilling a hole and using a split ring. On the other end of the plastic line I connect a very small carabiner that can be attached to the fly line near the reel. I've had the rod pop out of this holder 1 time and this rig saved my rod and reel.

Used this for six days on my pontoon boat. Well designed but needs a velcro strap for added security of your rod & reel. Adding your own is simple to do. The only other drawback is the plastic construction: plastic will wear out sooner than metal. The good points outweigh the shortcomings.

I use this on my Cabelas hard float tube and it fits fine and is very easy to adjust.
