This is a special-purpose vest, for a particular rider build, weather, and function. Meet these criteria, and you won't find a better vest anywhere (otherwise, the vest is merely Excellent).
RIDER BUILD: this vest is tailored to the classic road cyclist physique(fairly trim upper body relative to height). If you have this build, the complex multi-panel construction will yield a sculpted fit (the best I've ever experienced). Otherwise, once you get the chest measurement right, the torso length will be too long and the armholes will be loose.
WEATHER AND FUNCTION: In contrast to "normal" vests that sit folded in your jersey pocket until needed (for a descent or headwind), this vest is meant to be worn for the duration of a ride - hence the large and useful zipped and unzipped pockets. (If it gets too warm, you can still take it off and stow it - but the fabric and pockets make for a slightly bulky package.) The front & shoulder panels (of a breathable windstop laminated fabric) are absolutely windproof - much more so than normal non-laminated material - and the large mesh back panel vents very well. This combination (for me) makes it ideal for fast autumn rides in New England, when damp cold winds (and even an occasional drizzle) try to cut right through you, but it's too warm for a jacket with sleeves. (In New England conditions, the vest's sweet spot is 45-55F w/ long-sleeve jersey; I have friends who wear this vest into the mid 60s with short-sleeve jersey.)
SIZING: Do NOT use the generic sizing table on the STP page, which will be completely off for the larger sizes, but refer instead to the roll-over measurements in the "Sizes Available" boxes; the latter give Campagnolo's sizing. Going a half-size up from Campagnolo's recommendations yields a snug, non-binding fit (e.g., my chest is 37.5", and the Medium is perfect). Note: the above comments assume your jersey is snug-fitting.
MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTS: If you look at the picture of the white vest -- the white panels are a hard-finish, slightly stretchy Textran; the black side panels are a non-stretchy laminate; the red shoulders are a very stretchy laminate; and the black back panel is an open soft mesh. A lot of thought has gone into the construction of this vest.
