Since they pretty much just compress down between you and your saddle, I doubt they have to be that thick. I have thinner padded shorts that are just as comfortable. I guess its kind of like a gel saddle, when saddles with thinner firmer padding is actually better. As stated could be thinner, but still good.

Reviewed by Cycle Duane from Mesa, AZ on Saturday, September 15, 2012I purchased a pair of the Canari Echelon cycling shorts. I sized them per the instructions, and they fit properly. HOWEVER, the padding is positioned much too far forward. I tried them on two rides. The padding barely covered the front of the seat the first ride; the second ride, I tried hiking them uncomfortably high in the rear, but the padding still only came about half way back on the seat. They are worthless, unless you want to protect the front part of your anatomy! When I returned them, Sierra Trading Post deducted return shipping charges from my refund. When I challenged that, the best they would do is a 90 day gift card for future purchase. Doubt that I will be using that.

It took me a couple of days to realize that the strangeness was due to their feeling so much better. The design of the padding works very well with the male anatomy. Leave it at that.
