The fabric is on the thin side, which works well for hot New Orleans weather. It's very comfortable on the bike, but not so much for walking around afterward. I changed out of them almost immediately, which I don't always do. I sometimes run off the bike, but I wouldn't in these shorts. Good for long bike days.

There is no need for the gripping rubber in the hem of the legs because it does not even touch my thigh when I put these on. The padding seems adequate. If you have long, muscular legs these will probably work for you. I am going to keep them because I need them for the padding and I will be wearing them under things.
