Verified Buyer Reviewed by Jon from Wellington on Tuesday, September 23, 2014Our older Capresso coffee maker was great -- except for the mechanical mechanism that swung the basket from grinder to brewing and broke immediately -- so I had high hopes for this one, which no longer has that silly design flaw. And this still has the conical burr grinder, which none of the others seem to. But it turns out it no longer has the conical (melita-like) basket, which I think makes a difference to the flavour. And maybe because of what it's made of, the coffee tastes like plastic. Ran several pots of water through, ran through with white vinegar (and then lots more H2O), but can't get rid of the smell/taste. It's been a couple weeks and still there. Also the clock keeps time as if it's on Mars or something. So auto-brew function is out. I think Capresso has chosen form (and possibly cheap Chinese construction) over function-- won't be buying another!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by wattsup from illinois on Monday, September 8, 2014This is an outstanding coffee grinder/coffee maker. It is precise and delivers outstanding coffee. The programming features allow the grind and brew to take place first thing in the AM as we are rising - how cool is that?
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Jon from California on Tuesday, April 29, 2014Out of the box the machine would not pump water for the initial run through without coffee grounds. I called the manufacturer directly as I thought I may have been doing something incorrectly. They sent me a new machine in a few days - great customer service. The replacement machine does pump water but makes such weak coffee, it's undrinkable. Even when set to grind 10 cups of coffee beans at the strongest aroma setting and only filling 6 cups of water.....very weak coffee. Almost tea like in looks. I had high hopes for this machine but after trying to it for a few days I am going to return it and try to fix my 20 yr old Braun machine that brewed perfect coffee until the power switch broke.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Wanda Wake up in the Morning from California on Monday, April 28, 2014I've owned Grind and Brew Capresso machines in the past and have loved them. They've lasted a good 15 years and brewed delicious cups and full pots of coffee. This particular model, however, does not and is not able to produce a FULL pot of robust and flavorful coffee. The reason? The filter is simply not big enough. If what you're looking for is a good 4 cups of coffee, then set the grind to 10 cups of the finest grind and the aroma to the darkest available and you'll be able to brew about 4 cups of good coffee. If you want a decent FULL POT, then YOU'LL HAVE TO GRIND THE BEANS YOURSELF. I'M RETURNING THIS.
Sierra Trading Post is a good place to order goods. I have no complaint against them, and not even Capresso (except for this particular model).
Verified Buyer Reviewed by ed from Western Maine on Thursday, April 24, 2014I found very mixed reviews for this product @ STP and on Amazon. I decided to take a chance since I had a 35% discount on the STP price. The unit arrived missing a minor, non-essential part. My wife and I don't drink a lot of coffee but when we have our morning cup we want full flavor, even though we mix it half-decaf, half regular. The grinder easily handled the beans and the unit produced a great cup of coffee. There was no bitterness and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot and fresh without it burning. It's still in initial stages of "evaluation' so I can't vouch for reliability, but so far so good. The 10 cup capacity is an exaggeration but we do use large mugs.
