Answer These are measured on chest size. The short inseam is 29" which may be too long for you. These will most likely be too large for you.

Answer I would recommend going a size up to fit layers underneath as these run true to size. A men's chest of 44" is a L so I would recommend an XL 46S or a 48s.

Answer The sizing on this is chest sizing. You will need to know his chest size. The inseam is 29 inches for the short and 30 for the regular. Typically a size XL shirt is a 46 to 48.
