Carhartt Sandstone Arctic Coat - Traditional (For Women)

We've used carharrt chore coats for years because they are well made and keep us warm and don't get snagged on barbed wire fences.

Sleeves seemed a little long and a bit large for a size 0-2. I am 5'0 and 102 with a small frame and the coat swallowed me but I bought it to use in the barn so it works just fine for that.

I wear this coat everyday. It is warm and comfy. It is a little stiff until you put fabric softener on it.

I have a men's small arctic coat that swamps me but it so useful - when I don't have to look fashionable it is my go-to on cold days. I was so excited to try a women's! I got a small (5'6", 120lb) and the fit is just not right for me. The sleeves are a little too short - I want to be able to stretch my arms out and not have cold wrists. The armpit/shoulder area is tight - if I am grabbing an artic coat I probably have a sweatshirt on, and this area did not accomodate that kind of bulky underlayer. And I am pretty thin... The body was actually a bit gaping as well. In the men's, the armpits and shoulders are too big and I have to use the inner waist drawstring, but at least I can freely move in it. I sent this back and will stick to the unflattering men's for now. With Sierra's great returns, this MAY BE PERFECT for you, so give it a try - I am a fanatic for Carhartt women's pants, just finding the coats and vests don't work as well for me.

At first I didn't want to get this because it had no hood, but I needed a working coat for stacking wood and helping my husband outside, and we all know Carhartt is the best for durability. But after I got it I found a hood online for less than $25 and it makes this jacket the bomb! It was already good, but the hood makes it lay more like a comfy jacket instead of wearing my husband's coat, because the hood keeps the collar and shoulders from riding up. Sizing--I am 5'2" 115 pounds and usually order S, but I sent it back for XS. However, the S was longer and if I still lived in AK or Canada, I might have gone with that.

Very warm, very heavy...the usual excellent quality for which Carhartt is known. I couldn't find anything to indicate why this coat was designated as a second. A great bargain at STP's price, and it will last for years, if not decades. The bulky fit and stiffness noted by some reviewers is just a consequence of the heavy cotton duck material and tough construction and will soften with wear and washing. Highly recommended!

Our daughter works outside year-round. This coat will keep her warm and resist wear.
