It actually fit him very well, but we decided that the shorter style is not really what we wanted. We returned it and ordered one of the Carhartt longer style jackets. It was a very nice jacket, as was the one we ordered to replace it.

Question “is this jacket longer since it says for tall men”

Answer The length of the Carhartt Sandstone Detroit Jacket is 27", so it will be longer then standard sizing.

Answer Yes it is longer. The standard Detroit style jacket does not cover my belt line and this one comes at least two inches below it.

Question “What is the best way to clean and care for this jacket. Is there any way to soften it up. It is so stiff when it is new.”

Answer The care instructions tag states machine wash warm, do not bleach, tumble dry medium heat. I have had one since December of 2007, it will soften up after a few washes.
