Not sure the weight. But they are the heavier pants.

These are definitely the light weight 11.5 oz. I have never owned denim that is this light weight and had I known I would not have ordered these. I thought they only came in the heavy weight and that is what I wanted and assumed I was getting. I am really unhappy with my purchase. These will not last me long. Wish STP had posted that info.

Bar tacks are a sewing process that was used to reinforce the top corners of the rear pockets of jeans. It involves sewing a large amount of thread to an area for strength. You are correct that the rivets are the metal bindings, those are extra reinforcements.
