These have been my brand and style of shorts for years. I work construction and I am very hard on work clothes. I find all of the Carhartt clothing to be my favorites, be it jeans, t-shirts or shorts. When these shorts arrived, /i looked them over very closely and could only detect the "blem" on one pair. It appears that the end of a leg seam stitching was a bit overdone, like they weren't watching and gave it a few more stitches than planned. The wife also could not find the blems in the other shorts. So very happy with the shorts. I would be buying these shorts at almost any price but 8 bucks lower than the lowest new price is a steal.

Answer It is soft than cotton duck, which is a heavy, plain woven cotton fabric. Often is used for Carhartt's work wear.

Answer I expect "Duck" to be a heavy Cotton weave, like a (light) cotton canvas, that will hold up under work conditions like framing carpenters, plumbers and miners, ect. Waxed Duck would be water proof, like the outback coats.
