For starters, the looks are simply stunning. I got the black/white mix predominately because I'm soooo tired of yellow. The white's visibility makes it functional for both the daytime as well as the dark. In terms of the latter, the jacket has extreme silver reflectors down the sleeves and back not only adding to the ability to be seen but the looks as well. STP should provide a picture as the reflection is a definite selling-point.
The fit hugs my 5'8"body with 39.5" chest almost dead-on. In fact, when I put it on, I immediately feel that I'm getting ready for a race and I'm putting on an aero-suit. In front, it seems a tiny bit short as it barely covers my flat abdomen (I was once a Large in many tops before I seemingly shrunk somehow perhaps it has to do with America getting BIGGER?). The drop-down tail does not seem as dramatic as the picture would have you believe.
Is it waterproof? It seems the true test of this comes 3-4 months down the road in the midst of heavy rain. Therefore, I can't comment on the longevity of this claim yet but I can say that the water beads in an excellent way, seeming quite waterproof at this point.
Breathability has been beyond compare! It is thicker than one might expect but I have not felt overheated to the point where I had to remove it in 50 degree weather. The pit-zips work fluidly if heat does begin to stifle one's chest.
Overall, I am stoked to have found this product and recommend it to anyone. Thoroughly appreciate the price that STP sold it for as well (Thanks STP!)
Reviewed by Phil the Ground Squirrel from Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 21, 2013This is a stylish yet practical piece. I chose red for high visibility and function. And with the addition reflectivity on the arms and back, it is an essential jacket for urban survival. It is also something you could wear on the long spring / fall peloton group road ride. Pit zips are a nice addition for breath-ability. Front pockets too. Every zipper pull has a handy tab. I mention road because I'd hate to dive into the thorn bushes with this. I've been wearing if for winter in here in central Pennsylvania with another fleece under.
Sizing is slim - so it doesn't fit like a typical floppy rain jacket. The arms are a little longer, which is nice. Velcro vs elastic will last the years. Nice to have a longer tail for coverage as well. The only negative I could see is that it is not super packable - like the nylon coated sweat shells. But it dosen't take up too much room. No hood, a plus for me.
Reviewed by MrBikeCommuter from San Diego CA on Tuesday, October 15, 2013The fit, finish, details and styling of this jacket are exceptional, but typical of Castelli. I bike commute year round and this is my new foul weather friend (yes, we do get foul weather in San Diego).
Answer We are sorry there are no breathability and waterproof ratings available for this jacket.
