So far I've been able to take macaroni and cheese directly from the freezer to the microwave in these bowls and they did not break during the change in heat. I did, however, heat for about two minutes on high in the microwave and then let it sit for about a minute before giving it another round of time in the microwave. I kept doing that cycle until the macaroni was fully heated to our liking. I'm not sure that these bowls are tempered for temperature shock the way Corning dishes are. But this technique has worked for me. They're large enough that one bowl filled with mac and cheese nicely serves two people. They also look great on the table and go with any dishes.
