Never worn Chacos or sandals for hiking, but needed some 'water shoes' for hiking through water to reach waterfalls in Tanzania, Africa. This is the brand recommended by my podiatrist to alleviate the foot pain I have each summer from wearing sandals without the proper type of support. So far, they are very comfortable and also easy to put on. The straps stay adjusted between wearings. The sizing is really accurate as well. A tiny thing is that the strap is quite long so it drags on the ground on the outside of my feet near my heels...I don't think it would cause me to trip but I may have to cut off the strap and cauterize the edge and resew it....this is not a big deal and perhaps the particular dimensions of my feet are different from the average person.

I have a high arch, spend a lot of time on my feet, and broke a couple toes awhile back (so need a wider shoe). These sandals feel like heaven from the moment I put them on. They also do not "squeak" when I walk like my updrafts did. I don't care about the color, but I do like the sturdy soles for when I go to Idaho and walk on all that rough volcanic rock. I live on a farm and they are easy to slip off and leave the black soil at the door.

This is the 5th pair of Chaco sandals I've purchased in the last 10 years. Still wearing all but one pair, they were my first pair, and they just need a resole and I'm good to go. How many 10 yr old sandals can you say that about? Chaco's wear well, are comfortable, and are a great value for the money.

It is hard for me to find sandals for my feet which are extremely wide and have extremely high arches. The Z/1 offers a higher arch than most sandals. The adjustable straps offer my feet the extra width they need. I wear these sandals on an almost daily basis. The one downfall is their tendency to collect grime on the foot bed which makes then stink. I use a sandal wash on them, and them, and that helps immensely.
