5.0 out of 5 stars. Best Sandals for distance Hiking
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Tito the all-around outdoorsman from Wisconsin on Tuesday, January 1, 2013
I was excited to find such a great deal on these sandals at Sierra Trading Post. I finally needed a replacement pair of Z-2 Chaco Sandals after finally wearing my original pair out after 11 years. I used the original pair all the time in the summer from general every day use, backpacking in warm weather, paddling, and hiking. They are a bit heavy for sandals, but for a good reason: they provide the support of a mid-weight hiking boot, excellent arch support, your feet are solidly anchored to the footbed, and the soles are super grippy and durable. That being said, they still weigh a fraction of a mid-weight hiking boot but obviously with more breatheability. If you have solid ankles and don't need the support of a boot, use these to hike, or backpack in the summer. I've been comfortable for hours of hiking with a pack in excess of 40 pounds. Plus they're super comfy and durable.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Heavy duty

Thick, heavy soles ensure years of wear. These Z/2s have a big toe loop to better secure the forefoot. Single strap is fairly easy to adjust when the sandals are new but becomes increasingly difficult as time goes by and the strap takes a set. Unaweeps are heavy but are a cure for planned obsolescence.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Sad to see this style go.

They fit perfect. I love this sole and have for 9 years so I'm sad when I heard the unaweep sole is being discontinued soon.

Size is true. Received 2 days after I ordered!
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Good deal, poor service
Reviewed by Anonymous from Tennessee on Sunday, June 26, 2016
I bought these chacos because it was a great deal(saved almost $60). However, the service from Sierra trading post leaves much to be desired. They sent me an email over a day after I purchased the product telling me I had to call in to verify the order. I do not check my email regularly and I expected a phone call if there was an issue with the order since I provided my phone number. So my order ended up being delayed multiple days for no apparent reason and I had to call in just to verify that I did indeed order the item. I expect more from an e-commerce site especially when I'm paying around $8 for shipping.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Overly complex to put on and too tight.

I found these to be overly complex to put on and too tight. I am not sure why they have the cult following.

About Chaco

There's a good reason why Chaco shoes have maintained a devoted following of adventurous souls (proudly known as Chaconians) for more than 25 years. From the incredible, arch-supporting footbed to the totally unique strap configuration, Chaco sandals fit like a glove and provide amazing support. Originally created by Mark Paigen in 1989, Chaco sandals have since evolved from a single pair of “Ultimate Sport Sandals” into an array of adventure-ready footwear products, including Chaco boots, sneakers and even clogs. Plus, to reduce waste and help loyal Chaconians get more miles out of their favorite kicks, this brand has even introduced the ReChaco Project, which allows customers to send in their worn or damaged sandals to be repaired.
