  • Chrysalis Chiltern Shetland Field Coat - Wool, Insulated (For Men)
By Fireman BillVerified PurchaserVerified Reviewer from Texas on 11/22/2008
    Pros:
    Durable, Good Value, High Quality
    Cons:
    Size runs large
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
This coat can handle anything from field use to casual elegance in the city (with a country-gentleman flavor). My caution is to be careful of sizing. I'm a 42R & ordered the Large, which would fit a 44R wearing a bulky sweater. The Medium is just about perfect.

This is a beautifully made mens coat. I saw a very similar one in the men's dept.of one of New York's best department stores a year or so ago. It was very expensive.

This coat is great but would be even better if the upper section and sleeves were lined. The fabric is great and looks terrific.

Chrysalis coats are much more expensive in mens clothing stores selling traditional clothing. I would have preferred the woolen lining, used in the top end coats.

I am a size 38S, and I bought a size S, which is supposed to be size 34-36. When I got the coat, it was enormous. Everything about it was too large. I had to spend around $170 to get the whole coat "remade" to fit my body. The end result is, however, stunning. I believe even the extra $170 I spent on tailoring is worth the price I am paying for this beautifully made coat.

Looks really nice and the cut is very true to size. Very well-made. I'm a 40 chest and the 40 in this coat with either a t-shirt or thin sweater fits just right, but has room for a thicker sweater. The only thing I don't like, and I did know this when I bought it, is that it is unlined (except the sleeves). That said, the material is heavy (about LL. Bean wool blanket weight heavy) and not itchy.
