Cloudveil Inertia Peak Jacket - Soft Shell (For Men)

great for seriouslayering as it is warm and not too bulky to fit under my down jacket and outer shell, but also great as a layer for hanging around the house

I wanted a jacket that was able to do anything I do and this is it. I am comfortable wearing it on my daily commute (cycling) or out to dinner and everything in between. It was perfect on a chilly hike yesterday. It stopped the cold wind but allowed the right amount of breathability when things started to get warmer in the sun. Awesome!

This is a functional quality softshell with an understated design that doesn't make you look like you should be rock climbing instead of browsing the produce section at the supermarket. If you understand the concept of a softshell, then you know they are all about keeping you reasonably protected from wind and rain while you decide the level of warmth through layering. Which brings me to the one con about the inertia peak jacket....the shoulders, chest and arms all fit me perfectly (6'1 170, got a medium) but the midsection seems to allow for a potbelly which I don't yet have. If Cloudveil had tightened the midsection just a couple inches then I would have given this jacket 5 stars. As it is, you can wear a fairly substantial fleece underneath as long as the arms don't bunch up too much. Overall impression is that this is a durable, cleanly designed jacket that can serve multiple uses and look pretty good while doing it.
