Columbia Footwear Bugabootoo Winter Boots - Waterproof, Insulated (For Women)

I've seen at least two other people with this same problem! These boots were a gift about 4 years ago. Worn each winter about 5 times and then stored in a plastic tote with the other snow clothes. This tote was kept in our apartment, so it didn't endure drastic temperature changes. I pulled them out two months ago and the rubber had cracks! And then after wearing them for two days ...more cracks started and the original cracks were now gapping holes where chunks of rubber had fallen off! This was a great short term boot...but I am frustrated that it is not lasting!

I got these boots as a Christmas gift several years ago, and used them maybe 5 times a season - mostly to walk in the snow and occasionally to snowshoe. They fit nicely with my snowshoe binding. Aside from this, they were stored in a closet. I was surprised today to see the rubber has completely cracked on both boots, and split away from the leather. The soles still look new, but it's as if all the rubber on the uppers just quit at the same time. I'm planning to pursue the matter with Columbia. It would make me think twice about ordering these.

Like a few of you, my boots have cracked after several seasons. I have had my boots for 8 years or more. Although the boots were long out of warranty we simply followed the instructions on the Columbia website by taking pictures of the damaged area, the sole of the boot, the tag in the tongue and sent it to their customer service department (columbia@custhelp.com). Within two days the reply I got back was: "Thank you for your photos and information. We will be happy to replace these boots for you as we would consider this a manufacturing defect. I have placed an order for two of the current version of your boots, to ship from our Kentucky Warehouse. These boots were bought about 5 years ago, so are out of warranty. They were worn for one or two days a year and stored indoors in a closet. Suddenly, the rubber on the lower area of the uppers cracked and fell off. I assume it is due to deterioration of the rubber, but considering their minimal use and indoor room-temperature storage, it seems quite unusual.

It took me a long time to find the right pair of winter boots. At last my feet are warm and dry from the winter elements. Highly recommended to everyone.

I bought these boots a few years ago but have only worn them a handful of times (not a lot of snow). The first couple of times I wore them, they were stiff and caused a bruise on my shin but now that they're broken in, they're very comfortable. However, the tread is still like new on the bottom but the rubber on the foot of the boot completely cracked and is peeling away from the boot! Unfortunately, the warranty is only for one year so I will not be able to have them replaced. I would not recommend these boots if you're looking for something to last unless this issue has been addressed with the newer version.

My son was much like the boat. I receive another boat will definitely columbia brand.

I have difficult feet to buy boots or shoes for. We intend to spend Christmas 2009 in the Swiss Alps and these boots will be perfect. Easy on/off, light, fleece lined and waterproof. What more could you ask for. JUST PERFECT!!!

Ordering new footwear, especially boots, is a special hassle for me due to touchy feet, a little wide from years of Birkenstock use because that's usually all I can wear for half the year! These are roomy while still fitting well - amazing in a hard boot. They are awesomely hard to remove. I actually worry about pulling a muscle somewhere or other when I wrestle them off. But they fit, and were comfy to walk in from day one (!!), and I really needed something waterproof for woodsy walks in the slushy "in-between" months. Overall a great value, provided they last a while - and they look like they will.
