I bought these shoes for a half dome trip. I wore them around work to break them in but they were actually comfortable enough that I didn't really need to break them in too much. It's also great there is a contour lining of the sole so the shoe supports your arch. On the actual trip my feet felt fine. The only drawback was that the shoe is hard to put on and lace up. It felt like the laces were stiff and couldn't be tightened easily. Other than that, I don't have many complaints. I suggest wearing heavy wool socks if you go hiking. This will give you extra padding.

I am going rafting in the Grand Canyon and I bought these shoes to hike back into the canyon since I wanted something more substantial than "water shoes" but that were still waterproof. The shoes are very comfortable and just the right stability for medium difficulty hikes. The big thing that is keeping me from rating them much higher is that they are HOT - my feet are noticeably warmer than with any other shoe I have had in the past. I suspect that they are more waterproof (haven't tested this yet) than breathable. I kept them because at least I thought I could use them in cold weather.

I think I could do testings for Columbia or other footwear companies. I walk 2 miles a day in a meadow with my dogs in grass and through the woods on trails, every day of the year, all year, all weather conditions.
