I've generally been very happy with Columbias in the past, so this pair is a little disappointing compared to usual. The first problem I noticed was the tongue gussets are too thick and dug into the tops of my feet, making it rather uncomfortable the first times I wore them. After I fiddled around with them a bit and they got a little squished down, the problem subsided. But I just took them on a long (8-mile), rugged hike, and the sole of my left foot, which is flatter than my right, began having problems about halfway through. The insoles don't have very good arch support and probably will have to be replaced. Otherwise, they feel okay--not too heavy, and I really like the traction on the outsoles.

I took this boot on a nine mile, rocky, steep trail as part of my training hikes for a 8 day Grand Canyon treck. It held up very well with no feelings on discomfort. It will be further testing boulder hopping and wading in water on the G. C. hike.
