I have not tried it yet in very cold conditions, but it seems to provide an even, light warmth, but not too much. It is thin and very stretchy. (I am a plus-size female, and the men's XL fit me well).

They aren't extremely warm, but they are warm evenly throughout the length, and I didn't overheat with them in the car. So they would be good for most winter sporting activities while wearing a proper outer layer with them. Also, since they are really stretchy, I was able to wear the mens XL comfortably with full range of movement, and they fit well even though I'm really a female 2X. This is my firt omni-heat item. I wonder if the relective lining will hold up under repeated washing. I've only washed them once and they are fine so far, but the lining looks delicate.
