I am 5'8", 140 pounds with an athletic build (not muscular, lean) and purchased these in a light blue size 8. They are a perfect length and fit. Speaking of the fit, it is really different than other hiking pants out there, very fitted with a narrow leg. But, while other, more generously cut pant... Read More

After reading many reviews about running small I was persuaded into sizing up. I bought the grill color in a size 6R. My waist is a 28 and my hips are a 36 so again, based on reviews I erred on the larger size. They were huge on me. I could put them on and take them off with them snapped and zipped. I returned them and got a size 4R (the size I would have initially bought in the first place). The 4R fit perfectly with plenty of length. I'm 5'7". The bungee cord at the bottom was wonderful for nights around the campfire with all sorts of insects crawling about. When I was hiking with my pack on I would roll down the waist once so that softer fabric was against my hips as opposed to the scratchier mesh . I found this kept my hip skin from getting irritated. The pockets are nice and deep and they have one zippered pocket. The only true negative about them is that the waist snap comes unsnapped when you're sitting and bend over. They do not fit tightly around my waist, yet they still come unsnapped. I would buy them again.

I have several pairs of Columbia pants and those are my favorites. I tried these and they just don't have enough "give"...The waist is quite small compared to other Columbia types. I returned them.

These pants are just what I wanted and needed. I ordered a size up after reading the reviews and after wearing a size up for the past 3 years. Previously I had ordered a size up (a 12 instead of my usual size 10) 3 years before that. and they fit fine. I am keeping the ones I ordered for comfort days around the yard but the new ones (size 10) fit perfectly. I suggest ordering your regular size. They are quick to dry, comfortable, useful pockets, light weight, definitely bug repellant, and with the drawstring bottom legs they are definitely secure from insects. Love them

These are a good fit for me as the waist is roomy and the rise is higher than most pants these days. I wish they also had back pockets but the pockets are a good size. Good for hiking when the temp. Is hot but the biting insects are bad.

As usual Sierra Trading Post did a fantastic job of getting the order right and sending it just as requested. I've bought three pair of these pants previously (over a three year period) and they are comfortable and do exactly as stated. They also do look pretty good for casual hiking pants and I've had great results with the bug shield part. This time I ordered the same size I have gotten in the past, a size 12 and I'm 5'5" and weigh about 138. The previous pair (s) fit perfectly and I had ordered up a size (12) since I usually wear a 10 and the reviews said they ran small.. The new ones I just received were very loose so I measured with a tape measure. They are larger than the ones ordered in the past. Since I love the pants, I decided to keep the larger ones and use them for working around the property and ordered another pair, size 10, and hope they fit. Good value for the money and great pants to hike the trails.

    • Answer Yes a phone would fit in the pocket. However, like other reviews have said, these are more form fitting than most hiking pants, so depending on how long you're hiking it might not be the most comfortable.

    • Answer There is a narrow zipper pocket on the right leg, and a velcro hip pocket, plus the normal hand pockets. A smart phone would fit in any of them. This is a slim fitting pant, I wear a 6, and have two pairs of these. They are flattering and comfortable. I get them when there is a 40% coupon through Facebook:)

    • Answer There is a fairly deep zippered pocket on the right leg at about mid-thigh that comfortably holds my iPhone 5.

    • Answer They're not technically pants with a cargo pocket, but there is a secondary, zip-top pocket that can easily hold a smart phone. It holds our iPhone 3 with plenty of room to spare.
