I thought this shirt would work excellently for hiking in the woods or at the lake as a cover up or in the mornings/evenings when the mosquitos are out and when the air is a bit cooler but a sweatshirt is too much. I bought a size large for my 11 year old who is thin and average height. The extra length seemed fine since she will be growing like a weed over the next two years, but she couldn't stand how tight it was in the armpits. Getting a larger size would make this way too big for her.
