They are perfect! Waterporrof, insulated and fit is perfect so even where some fleece undersneeth if needed. They look nice too!

Question “what is the waterproof rating?”

Answer i've used in rain and snow, the seams are taped. The material is similar to GO--T-X. ( I HAD A SMALL RIP ONCE AND EXPOSED THE MATERIAL. ABOUT 60 GRAM POLYESTER INSULATION AS WELL ACCORDING TO COLUMBIAS WEBSITE. THEY'VE NEVER LEAKED.

Question “Is there more crotch room in the XL than the L? I fit fine into the Large, but they're confining there and in the rear. Would an XL be less restricting? The inseam is the same so I'm worried if I exchange it won't make a difference.”

Answer The XL will have more room, but might not fit you as well as the large does

Answer These do not have and leg zips, but have a slight velcro gusset. It's not a lot though, won't go over boots.

Answer Yes, there is an ankle strap concealed on each leg.

Answer No, there is not a zipper or velcro. There is a button and a taper on both the shell and gaiter to open the bottom up an extra inch or two if needed. I don't believe this is enough to get the pants on over ski or snowboard boots, but you could probably get them on over a pair of hiking (or snow) boots.
