Got this for a soft-shell outer layer for cold weather, snowshoeing, hiking. Not advertised as wind-proof or waterproof. But it is very warm layered over a wind-proof fleece. My mid-layers are larges. So got an xl to go over them. I'm 6ft., 190 lbs with a 44-45 inch chest and for me the xl is a g...

No frill, quality Soft Shell Jacket. Removable hood for added flexibility. When purchased for around $50 it's a 5 Star Value. It has a "Snap-On-Off" hood. I prefer a zip on-off hood which is why I gave it a 4 Stars. Excellent value for those who want the basics at super bargain prices (under $75) when purchase with one of STP's many special promotional extra discount prices. At these prices you can't expect the best breathability but the material feels as durable as jackets twice this price. Columbia brand usually runs true to American sizes. Normally I wear an XL and if your slim and trim no need to consider ordering next size up. If I wasn't a skier and hiker and I only wanted a light fall/spring around town jacket to wear I'd always order an XL. But I order 2XL to allow for my expansive waistline and occasional layering (6' tall 245lbs weight 47" chest 44" waist and 34" arms). I'd also say this jacket is more an athletic trim fit not a boxy wider or "regular" fit. Just another reason I often go for the 2XL instead of the XL. I'm 63 and am no longer slim and trim in the waist area and I like to have the ability to put on a mid-layer packable down vest or thin down mid-layer underneath on really cool fall or spring mornings when walking 5 to 10 miles. I've purchased a wide variety of Jackets and sports equipment from STP. STP always has an excellent selection of high quality close-out and prior season sportswear gear at great promotional prices. Their flexible exchange/return policy makes it easy to try on clothing/boots in the comfort of your home without feeling rushed into a decision.

A five star VALUE when you consider the STP special additional discount price. This is a soft shell jacket not designed for extreme cold but great as a wind breaker, water and stain resistant jacket (can be used for spring skiing or with layering on a sunny cooler day too). The zipper pockets are functional with a soft to the touch feel. NO FRILLS Jacket and not helmet compatible. Snap-off hood is better than no hood but I'd prefer a zipper on-off hood for better cold air seal. So keep in mind my 5 stars is based upon the fact it can be purchased for around $50 with special promo discounts. So it's a 5 star good budget product at a great STP barging price!! Runs true to size. But like a lot of products has a more slender athletic cut. So if your average height and slim you'll love the fit. If your short and stocky or pudgy you'll likely be unhappy. If your in the middle with a waistline above average for this manufactures published chest range or want a lose fit for possible layering then order up one size. e.g. I'm 6' and within the Columbia XL chest range and 34-35 arm length but at 235 my waist is in the 43 so I choose to order 2XL in athletic cuts. Arms are always about 2 inches to long but the Velcro wrist straps solve that problem and when skiing I've always preferred the extra length as I'm an aggressive skier always reaching/stretching arms and shoulders forward on the steeps.

I bought one of these in green for my brother last year and he has really enjoyed it. When I went back later to get one for myself they'd gone out of stock. I was pleased that Sierra had them again, and recently bought one for myself.
Cascade Ridge soft shell is the ‘almost perfect’, all-around, light jacket providing useful warmth for all but truly COLD weather and the WR finish is terrific - light rain just bounces off. Its stretchy enough to give some flexibility and make it very comfortable. Its a good option for layering on colder days. Sleeves are a little longer than Regular - that was good for me as I usually need a Tall - might be viewed as a problem by some.
My only criticism of the jacket is that it could use a couple more pockets – two interior pockets for everyday gear would be a great improvement. I also wish Sierra had the jacket in other colors - green or brown. I’d be in for another – great product at a good price.

I bought this jacket for Christmas in Wyoming and it was the right choice. I'm 6 ft. and 235 lbs.and the 2XL fit me fine. It's a perfect jacket for layering and if your like me and don't prefer a hood, that's removeable.

I didn't want a bulky coat for winter, this coat is great for layering with bulky sweaters or sweat shirts. I live in north Texas so we don't have constant days in the 20's and 30's. I don't know how it would perform in the northern part of country.
