soft shell?

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This jacket is advertised as a soft shell, which made me imagine that it would be a warm, windproof, water resistant shell, somewhat like a windstopper. Instead, all it is is a windproof shell. It's very thin and has almost no insulative properties at all. It might be an appropriate jacket for someone living in the tropics.

This is an amazing jacket for the price. We ordered the light gray - trimmed with a soft brown. The details are super & the sleeves are actually long enough to use the jacket as a solo piece or layered for more extreme conditions.

This is the best price for a softshell anywhere. Perfect for layering or by itself if it might rain you're ready for that too. What a bargain, and it works and is well made.

Good jacket, great cut and nice lines. Not built for layering--I usually wear M and the M size fits perfectly with a light shirt underneath but fits poorly with a thick fleece.

This jacket is a light jacket and does not have a liner, because it is a liner. Great jacket keeps the wind and water out and as long as you keep moving it keeps you warm. Very nice looking jacket and very waterproof rain and snow just bead up and roll off.

This is only a liner. It was very thin and didn't have outer side pockets. I have never owned a jacket without pockets. I sent it back.
