Verified Buyer Reviewed by LizzyRN from Mount Vernon, WA on Tuesday, November 27, 2012Bought these for my grandson who is 22 months. He has taken his first hike outside of the backpack. I hope that hiking is something we can do together. I've also gotten him the North Face Sprout backpack which holds his diapers, wipes, snacks and water.
Reviewed by HikinDeb from Cleveland, OH on Sunday, November 18, 2012I bought these for my granddaughter because she goes hiking with me. At 18 months, she didn't need really industrial shoes, but the waterproof features, and the more solid soles sold me. The first time she wore them was when we all went camping. They were perfect for the dewy mornings and for the uneven terrain.
The shoes felt stiff when I put them on her, but she didn't have marks on her feet, nor did she complain about them hurting.
The only reason I didn't give these 5 stars is because of the pseudo lacing. The laces are ornamental, and keep the shoes looking like "big kid shoes," but do nothing for keeping them on the kids' feet. The edge of the lacing panel or placket actually peels up and is attached by velcro. That's the problem. The velcro doesn't stay closed. It would be perfect if it worked, because no one wants to deal with soggy or muddy shoelaces. We were dealing with the velcro issue - the shoe would open up while she was walking - for most of the camping weekend, and it was really getting annoying. Otherwise, these shoes would be perfect for our use!
I have taken her "hiking" at our local arboretum, and I don't have to worry about returning her to her mother with her cute everyday shoes destroyed.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by ABMom from Connecticut on Thursday, March 22, 2012These shoes are really cute once they're broken in, but they take a while to break in. With a toddler, having the patience to break in might be tough - I have twins and both of my kids would pitch a fit because they could not figure out how to take the shoes off, but they were uncomfortable in them until the shoes were worn for a while.
Sizing seems a bit snug, both width and length wise. I bought a size 4 toddler for my girl, and it's BARELY longer than her current size 3 - which means we won't be wearing them for much longer.
Good value for the price though.
