Reviewed by Ancientarrow from So. California on Friday, October 18, 2013I am fairly new to fishing, using spinning and baitcasting equipment for the past 3 years, I thought I would finally try the fly way of fishing, bought this outfit on clearance, it arrived in 1 week and when inspecting final 1/3 of the rod was fractured. Contacted the Sierra Trading Post customer service dept. to report the damage. They promptly refunded the money and shipping costs for the outfit. I decided to go with another manufacturers outfit rather than this one. My experience with Sierra's customer relations was top notch and very prompt, would consider ordering other equipement from them in the future.
Reviewed by Tony from Long Island, NY on Thursday, September 5, 2013The rod is easy to cast and seems well put together. Even the cork grip is acceptable for a low end rod. The reel works well enough and doesn't over run when stripping off line. It doesn't catch the line between the spool and housing like some cheap reels. The line is garbage. It is not smooth and doesn't want to go through the guides. Line dressing helps for a time.

Reviewed by carpfly tier from Kansas on Sunday, May 26, 2013I have fished the rod twice since I purchased it, once for perch and bass on a pond and the second on a small lake out of a kayak. The combo was a joy to fish. I have a more expensive fly rod set and this rod performed just as well. Great cast-ability in windy conditions yet enough control to lay a fly down quietly. I wish I would have purchased this combo before I spent more on a different out fit. Summary: Great way to get started fly fishing, Great rod average reel, line could be better and it would be great if it had a leader loop. Buy one and take a child fishing.
