  • Cortland LTD II Fly Fishing Reel - Large Arbor, Disc Drag
By FlyFisherInCo from Colorado on 11/19/2011
    Cons:
Line jams easily, Poor Construction, Spool fits too loosely, Tangles Line
    Describe Yourself:
    Avid Fisher
    Was this a gift?:
    Yes
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I use this reel on small streams and rivers. The spool fits so loosely around the edge that the line comes out through the gap, and usually jams. I have other brand reels as well, and don't have any issues with those (Ross and Redington). I like the Cortland rods but not their reels.

I was looking forward to trying this line, but like another reviewer stated, the line is sticky. It was slick when I first put it on, but after 5 hours of fishing the slick coating has worn off and the line is now sticky and tacky and does not want to shoot through my rod's line guides. I am considering returning it, but it is almost not worth the hassle. I would recommend one of the Sage brand lines offered on STP if you can find a suitable model and size. They might be a little more money, but I purchased one a while back and have been very pleased.

I wear these while bicycling. The wrap-around band is comfortable under my helmet. They adjusted enough to fit my head (felt too small straight out of the box, but were clearly marked with how to adjust). The magnetic front closure makes them super easy to hang around my neck when not in use, or to flip one side lens open in order to check the true color of the sunset as I ride home from work. The only downside I've found, and the reason I've given it four stars instead of five, is that the first time I wore them one lens got very foggy and didn't clear on its own as quickly or easily as previous glasses (without wiping it with a microfiber cloth), basically blinding me on one side until I flipped that lens open. It was nice to have the choice of using just the non-fogged lens, though. Great polarization, and clear enough and tinted light enough that I am comfortable wearing them at night just for a wind shield, yet strong enough for day-wear. Everything looks crisp and clear through them (minus fog incidents).

I haven't actually tried this out yet. It seems o be a full flex rod. The ferrules fit together quite well, but it has an inexpensive build as does the lightweight, rather basic reel. I bought it as a spare for my kids or friends who want to try fly fishing and for the price I paid of well under $100 it seems worth it. It comes with backing and flyline separate from the reel and leader, but no extra tippit material.
