Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I bought this shirt in the earth color which is rich and lovely. It is beautiful, high quality in appearance. Sleeves are good long length, and it fits long on the torso.
Re size, Patagonia small top is a perfect fit on me. Fortunately, I read Ski Bum's review and ordered both a small and a medium. The medium fits me like a gently snug second skin. If your skin skin fits as sleek as this shirt, you could wear it as an outer layer. If not you'll need a Spanx or second layer.
It is sized and intended as a base underwear layer, though still one size small for that. I was going to return it, then tried the medium on again with a black vest and running tights. It looks great that way. It also looks great under the Eider Maelle Fleece jacket and does not grab or stick to the fleece. So I will wear it as a base layer until or if I ever have not an ounce extra on my torso.

Hiked Machu Picchu in July and really liked this base layer at night--the label reads as though it would be the 1st layer of a few, but I was very comfortable in about 40F with this and a fleece while active. It looks good and is very slimming with the contrast stitching lines. Great color too!

I bought my first Craft Pro Zero baselayer last winter and wore it constantly, for comfort as well as skiing and snowshoeing. I even slept in them! They are warm but never stuffy or itchy, and the fit is sleek but comfortable, and legs and sleeves are long enough for taller people, too.
