The manufacturer uses a patented and innovative method of stitching he vamp down to the mid sole which allows them to make the boot for less. This leads to a little wrinkle in the welt, just behind the ball of of the foot along the instep where it is hard to for he sewer to follow an concave curve along the instep. This part of things is a little irregular but basically fine.

The real problem which I have with the construction is that the heel tab is not strong enough to be used to put on the boots. On my pair it tore off on the fourth or fifth time I put on the boots. I cut the tabs off with a pair of scissors, and continue to wear and enjoy he boots. However a heel tab is only really 'ornamental' and cannot actually be used, is unacceptable on a pair of chelsea boots. The tabs are part of this 150 year old boot design for a reason, and they need to be strong enough to be used.

The fit is fine and the construction is good. They're a bit different in a few small ways than my ideal ankle boot. Mainly, the footbed isn't smooth (as I was expecting -- this is probably a Born thing, and this is my first pair), so it has an odd sort of feel. But there is plenty of room in the toe and fairly decent arch support.

A few other small points to consider:
    - The sole is rubber which has good traction, but the heel is leather so it isn't great in the snow.
    - The heel doesn't stick out beyond the back of the boot, so using a boot jack or putting your opposite toe high up on the back is required.
    - the leather is a dusty gray, so it is more of a casual boot.

All in all, they're fine, but certainly not my favorite and I won't be wearing them every day.

Most comfortable shoe I ever owned. Great for more formal occasions. No lacing is great for this 83 year old back.
