As other reviewers notes, the fabric is extremely tough, but good flex zones are built in to make them move well. The cut is long enough to cover knee pads, though without pads the fabric at the back of the knee could get irritating. Definitely not XC shorts, as they don't seem like they will breath very well, but will provide significant scrape protection if (when) I hit the ground. Good zipper and ratchet closure. Why don't more shorts and athletic pants have this? The single pocket is well places, but a second one on the other side would not be overkill.

First: these are over short with no liner or pad.
I was looking for a Baggie short with padded liner.
The material is quite stiff and not really suited for a long ride, in my opinion.

    I returned these shorts.

Great mtb shorts! Retails for over $100 elsewhere-- with coupons and shipping discounts you can get them here for 60% less shipped to your door.

Long inseam, baggy, comfortable and durable. Shorts have built in ventilation, armor (lower back) and other misc padding.

The styling cues aren't too over the top. I've worn them around as regular shorts when not riding and they don't seem out of place.

I had an initial issue with a busted rivet at the waistband on my first pair but it didn't stop me from returning and re-ordering because the shorts really are nicely made.

Shorts do seem to run small at the waist. I ordered a size Medium (I'm a true 33W) and I'm at the tailend of the waistband ratcheting system. It's a nonissue for me since I expect to get leaner this riding this season. But if I was a 34W, I'd have to go a size up.

You're gonna get noticed if you wear these. Make sure you can deliver upon what you're selling. Like all Dakine gear, well made and these can be worn w/ the removable liner (not included). This pair has a sewn-in body armor part at the small of the back.
