This is same boot Danner now markets as the Crater Rim Hiking boot which retails for $300.00. STP's price is a great value! I have not put these boots to the test yet so I cannot comment on durability, but every indication based on visible build quality is that these are the same standard as the many other Danner USA made boots I have. What I can tell you is that these boots fit more true to size than most boots/shoes. My foot pronates, but when supported I am a 9.5 medium width dead on. I routinely have to buy size 10.5 trail shoes and size 10 dress shoes (Salomon, 10; Merrell, 10.5) Danner sizing is more accurate in my opinion. Take this into consideration when purchasing. It is built on Danner's 610 last, which is one of the more universal ones in terms of fit. A primary reason I chose these boots was they would accommodate my "solesupports" orthotic inserts which are somewhat rigid and have a high arch. Orthotics take up space and the Combat Hiker still has enough room for me to wear thick socks and lace the way I want. In response to another reviewers question on whether these actually are lined with Gore-Tex even though there is no "GORE-Tex" label, the answer is yes. As I stated before, these are the same boot as the Crater Rim. I called and confirmed this with Danner, and also confirmed the Gore-Tex lining. If these boots fit you, and chances are they will, you will enjoy them. I agree that the lace system could benefit from hooks for the two top most eyelets. A small detail, but the reason for 4, rather than 5 stars.

The lacing system is not the greatest. The Wide seems to run narrow. I would of returned for the extra wide, but the lack of lacing hooks and just the D-rings made them not desirable.

The laces are constantly loosening and need to be re-tied. I follow the lacing instructions from Danner bUt that didn't work. It becomes a real problem because I hike about 5 milis a day on moderaltely rugged trails. Boots get loose on the downhill, doesn't hold foot in place. Boot is well made poor lacing, needs hooks I think.
