The stone gave my kitchen knives a great edge. I didn't order honing oil, but found baby oil, which is essentially mineral oil, to be a perfect agent. Great sharpener!

I wanted something to reestablish an edge that has been dulled by field use. This polishes and brings and edge back up superbly. I tend to avoid diamond hones on fine knives as they rip metal. This is what I want for my good stuff.

I purchased this stone along with a 10" hard Arkansas stone for putting an edge on my hunting knives. The stone is nothing fancy, but I did compare pricing on the internet. I found the cost to be very good for the size of the stone. I have used the stone and it does a nice job of dressing up the edge of the knife.

I really like the ten inch length of this model. It permits a long stroke, which is helpful with longer bladed kitchen knives or big Bowies. The soft arkansas stone is a moderately aggressive abrasive so it removes steel fairly quickly. However, the pores in the stone tend to load up after a knife or two. At this point it won't sharpen well unless you clean it. I use hot water, some grease-cutting detergent, and a Scotch-Brite type pad. It doesn't take more than a minute to clean. After cleaning, I apply a small amount of fresh honing oil. You could probably also use a little water if you don't like to use oil. I also have the hard arkansas and the translucent stones for really fine polishing.

Great stone for the money

The abrasiveness is right on to get a nice edge. I was expecting a heaver peace of stone.It's only about 7/16 in. thick.
