5.0 out of 5 stars. Get HonedVerified Buyer Reviewed by Big Zucchini Mike from Beaver County Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 9, 2016Dan's Whetstones are some of the best Translucent Arkansas Novaculite out there. The final polish on these stones is just enough to to get that "razor blade edge on high quality steel. I bought some other brands that have a rougher finish that takes awhile to "break In" these are great right out of the box! If you knife is dull or cheap stay with the soft and hard Arkansas as translucent novaculite is ONLY for an already sharp knife of steel of hard or low porosity ex....(surgical grade) and is meant to touch up or for ultra edging. The ones sold by sierra trading post are an awesome deal (just check the Dan's whetstone site). True 2nds have minor defects, but most are so cosmetic your hard pressed to find them.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Some "seconds" are better than othersVerified Buyer Reviewed by Doctor Hamfat from Rural Michigan on Thursday, June 24, 2010Admittedly there was no attempt to sell this as anything but a "second" and it certainly is, and with seconds it's the luck of the draw. The surface of mine is slightly pitted with small voids but milled flat. It is heavily cracked though the cracks are not through-and-through; a short drop would still likely break it. However, novaculite is novaculite and it does the job expected. I wish it fit better inside its box (it's quite undersized), to "stay put" while honing. But if I don't drop it onto the workbench and break it, it will likely last forever.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Great bargain!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Frankie from New York on Monday, January 25, 2010This was a 2nd, one side was perfect but the other had a natural crack. It is still perfectly usable but just keep in mind that they are seconds so you dont know exactly what shape the stone will be before you buy. But at these prices its worth the risk imo.
- Best Uses: All Blades
- Cons: Has a small natural crack
- Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational
- Pros: Easy To Use, Effective
