This is a good vest for milder temps, when it starts out cool and then the weather (or you) warms up quickly or when it's coolish but humid; also great wind protection on descents, or for rides along waterways that generate chilly breezes. I also love using this vest for commuting because of the mesh back--I usually wear a backpack and having an all-mesh back is great for ventilation. I do wish it had a pocket, though, and though it is true-to-size, the fit is typical Descente--a little short in the torso. Also not as fitted in the waist as my other vest(Vaude). But the Velom is a good choice for commuting or for when you need just the lightest of wind protection on longer rides--the fabric in the front is soft and silky yet very windproof. Folds up very small and is quite lightweight. The sky blue color is really nice and good for visibility, too.

Why do mens' vests come with rear pockets and womens' don't? This will be a needed replacement for an old vest but I really wish it had a pocket.

Very nice vest, though I thought the front would have a light lining, which it didn't. The plum color is very pretty. Unfortunately, like most women's biking tops, it's cut small -- too snug across the chest for me. I'll have to stick with men's cycling jackets, I'm afraid. But if you're average or small build, this would be a useful addition to the layering regimen most active women follow.

I really like the construction on descente's stuff. However, their tops are repeatedly short on me (5'6", 125lbs, small). Ultimately, I sent this vest back because it was all mesh in the back. I use a vest when the temps drop a little lower in the day, or when I'm descending. I decided that this vest with a mesh backing, wasn't really going to add much warmth. I returned it for something that was solid material all around.

This vest scrunched into a smaller mound than the Vaude Air and PI Whisper. Great for taking the edge off of downhill wind or cycling before getting warmed up. Then stuff it into your back pocked or seat bag. No pockets.
