I bought this for my grandson, whose mother is very cautious regarding anything that could be toxic. I have one myself and love it. It is true that it is cool in summer and warm in winter. A thinnish layer of wool makes for a fabulous sleeping experience.

I'm on a real merino wool kick right now- its the *new* technical fabric of my life. From underwear, to socks to shirts, to base layer, to sweaters, and finally to bed. SO maybe I'm overly excited about having just got a sweet deal on this mattress pad. Over the last several years, I've had a low quality down pad on our mattress. It's been lumpy, gnarly, and had quill tips stabbing us periodically, in various places. NOT great.
The step up to this merino wool pad is to step miles ahead of that- moreover, tho it's really comfy beneath the fitted sheet, and doesn't have a massive amount of bulk. It's quilted in 6 (or so) inch squares, so it's sure never to be lumpy. Combined with a couple light weight woolen blankets and a down comforter atop, this is the most comfortable our bed has been in quite some time. Tho some have complained that the "keeper" straps don't work, they seem to be just fine on our not-so-tall mattress. Maybe they aren't made for a more modern taller mattress.
One of the best attributes I can add to the list of positives about this pad- it's made in Austria! It really does seem to be a high quality product in every regard- tho time will tell. I write this review after just a few heavenly nights of sleep on the thing.

Really nice mattress topper: well made, soft, just perfect for an otherwise less than stellar mattress in the guest bedroom. If my own organic latex mattress weren't topped with wool anyway, I'd get another one for myself!
