This is a Great Suitcase, conforming to the Airlines Carry-On size
Eagle Creek Tough and well made, also having an Outstanding warrentee from EC.
we also have the EC Gear Hauler 22 to go with it, whitch doubles our capacity and weighs only 3.5 lbs,
and rides well right on top of the ORV 22, we also have some EC Cubes to help organize.
with $25.00 per bag each way fees, to not wait for your luggage, or pay fees is the new way to travel.

Caveat: I love Eagle Creek and have used only their bags for 15 years. I'm biased in their favor. And I still couldn't get above 3 stars.

Pros: Outstanding materials and workmanship; heavy-duty, smooth wheels; lightweight; water-repellant tough exterior; quality zippers, snaps, & handle
Cons: Weird shape that makes packing difficult; top-to-bottom rather than side opening; odd front "shoe" pockets that don't work; lack of Eagle Creek's renowned useful pockets/pouches; lack of EC's usual expansion

I bought this bag to replace or at least lessen the wear on my 12-year-old 22" Eagle Creek that had to go in for wheel repairs. Because I am on the road roughly 5 months of the year (more than 100K actual flight miles/year; several countries in a matter of days), my bags take a beating. My old EC bag is the gold standard: 6.5 lbs, 2350 cu.in. expands to 3450 when necessary (no longer legal carryon, but only once denied, in Poland), inner and outer compression straps, indestructible, lots of useful internal and external pockets/pouches.

This bag lacks ANY internal pockets/pouches for organization.

Worse, as another reviewer noted, the top is curved both side-to-side and front-to-back, making the shape difficult to pack and leaving you "short" many cubic inches of packing space that a rectangular bag would have. It's enough missed usable space that for a roll-packer like me, it would have fit two wool baselayer long-sleeve tees, two pair of socks, running tights, and a few pairs of underwear. Not a big deal IF your bag was otherwise standard and/or expandable.

But this bag is not otherwise standard. About 40 cubic inches of the bag's stated usable space is in the two "shoe pockets" on the front top and bottom of the bag. If that space was flexible such that you could ignore those pockets and instead pack more inside the bag itself, it might work, but they are hard-sewn, meaning that the inside back of the shoe pocket that is part of the covering flap for the inner compartment is tight, so that the pouches, if not filled, cannot become internal space. They're like extra little baggy pockets, too large to be useful for packing smaller items (you'd never find anything), and too small to cram even a couple tee-shirts. They're also too small for trail runners, let alone boots.

Worse, if you do pack those shoe pouches, your bag is nearly 2" fatter than the legal carry-on limit at all major U.S. airlines. It's definitely not close to any international airline standards.

The bottom of this bag is also deeper than the top, front to back. It is not the 9" as described but 10, maybe 10.5, which is larger than carry-on limits before you pack the shoe pouch.

In all, this bag seems indestructible, but useful only for someone who travels even lighter than I (and I do carry-on only for weeks or months at a shot, with dress clothes and fitness, hiking, etc gear in my carry-on), or someone who also checks a bag with shoes and heavier items and is looking only for a lightweight carry-on that they can abuse for a lifetime.

This one had to go back, sadly, and I'll keep waiting for an EC as good as my old bag.

Looks to be a good quality bag as expected from Eagle Creek, however it is larger than the stated dimensions. About 3/4 of an inch in each direction. So this might be a factor in being considered as carry-on size with some airlines.

Well balanced, well sewn, distinct quality. This is a solid carry-on option on most airlines. Wide opening and simple design make this perfect for non-business trips where I want all the usable space I can get. Exterior compression straps are effective both to keep bag in carry-on limit and to ease pressure on zipper during loading/flight. Only used once, but bag has Eagles lifetime warranty, so I'm please with it in all respects. Note. bag has 2 "shoe" compartments - one at top, one at bottom. Finally, a wheeled duffle I trust and can carry on!
