I ordered these boots (April 2010). Last August I caught my little toe between the seat and frame of a reclining chair. Even now, virtually all of my shoes, hiking boots included put pressure on the toe and are painful to wear. The Earth Cypress hiking boots are perfect; They have extra toe room and the sunken heel keeps the weight on my foot balanced rather than shifting it forward. In addition, they're lightweight and breathable - a big plus in the summer, as I can't stand it when my feet get too hot. I'm not sure they'd be the best boots in cold, rainy weather, but they're ideal for summer hiking and casual wear.

I like them as well as my regular hiking boots--which I won't wear anymore because they do not have the negative heel. (The negative heel technology has helped my knee pain so much that I replaced all my shoes with Earth shoes). These boots weigh approximately half what my standard hiking boots weighed, so I can wear them for hiking or just plain walking. I haven't had a chance to check durability or water resistance yet.

Purchased a 6 and found that the toe room with my thick socks was a bit snug. When I recieved the 6.5, I put them on & haven't taken them off since! Haven't been hiking yet, but am certain they will perform quite well.

I bought these shoes for the support - I'm recovering from a broken heal bone, and thought that this would be a great shoe. True, it has great support, is comfortable (at first) and looks nice. But, after wearing it all day, I couldn't walk anymore. My (healing) foot was killing me. I'm thinking that it is the negative heal technology - not good for me right now. So I returned the shoes. Maybe when my foot is healed completely I'll try again.

These are not hiking boots. I think that they were put by mistake in the hiking category. They are good to walk on a flat dry surface. I hiked with them 3000' elevation gain peak and it was torture going up. Down was OK. There were some streams to cross, and my feet got wet on the first one. I guess they could be good in a flat, cold, dry place, because they are warmer than most hiking boots I had. I returned them couple of days ago.

After reading such conflicting reviews I was puzzled about what to expect, but have had good experience with Earth shoes so I figured for the price, give them a shot. In general I have no problems with the boots but I do agree that the toe box is oddly "low", particularly for a hiking boot. So far they seem comfortable for general running around, but I don't know how they would fare as hard-core hiking boots. The quality of construction seems high, as is the norm for Earth. Also, I don't know if this is just because I now have several pairs of Earth shoes and so the negative heel is less noticeable, but the heels seem 'less negative' than on other styles.

I bought these boots for day hikes. I tested them out by walking through the local mall to make sure they felt comfortable (I did this on a couple of different occasions). They felt really good, so I decided to keep them. However, when I wore them hiking, my arches hurt (not enough support) and my toes felt cramped (small toe box). I generally take a wider width, however, Earth shoes do tend to be wider in general and usually fit. Also, because the toe box is so small, really thick socks or liners with hiking socks do not feel comfortable. Also, the outside rubber on the toe box started to peel back after only a few hikes. Overall a disappointment, but they would probably be fine for someone with narrow feet and no arch problems.

Recreational hiker/backpacker of AT and national parks. All my shoes, except my hiking boots/shoes, are Earth. Thrilled at idea of an Earth hiking boot, but disappointed. Cypress toe box is unlike any other Earth shoe. Instead of roomy toe box with vertical height, Cypress has a sleek, low toe--more like a conventional dress shoe. Also, shoe body/ankle had little integrity. Soft, closer to moccasin than hiking boot. I still am eager for Earth to make a hiking boot!
