Had to send a XXL back. It was so small that it felt like a medium. I could not even zip it up. I bought a XXL Rainforest down lined jacket on sale at a nearby Orvis store this afternoon and it fits beautifully. It even had some loft in the down. This didn't.

This coat is a joke. The zipper is on the wrong side, the down if any at all has no loft. It is at least 2 sizes to small. I am 6-2 210lbs. with an athletic build. The XL fits more like a medium. Save your money or buy a real parka from The North Face.

Purchased the Eider Smooth II in January'09 to stay warm this winter in Toronto. The jacket fits slightly small. I typically buy Medium, but found Large fit just right. Sleeves could be just a bit longer. For the price, lacks features. No snowskirt to cut down drafts. Faux fur does look cheap and not sure how functional to keep the cold out. Warm enough for the city (house to car\bus to work\school), and not very bulky with 700 down fill. May not be warm enough for extreme cold conditions. Also not gore-tex. Uses Eider Defender technology. Cannot see seam seals. May be under down layer. For the price, a great jacket $. For more colder conditions (and price is less of a concern), maybe look at the North Face McMurdo $$, and extreme conditions, go with Canada Goose $$$

This parka comes with an uninsulated hood. Also, I don't think it would have been quite warm enough for conditions in Quebec, really it could use more down. Still, I would've kept it but that hood is a deal-killer for me. Normally, Eider make excellent products.

I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas. He moved to me from a warmer climate and this coat is a great value for extremely wonderful quality. It is not your usual bulky down coat that makes you look like a dough boy. It is light weight but really warm- I've worn it too.

Liked the quality and warmth but, even though down should be close to the body to do its job, this coat was a bit too snug to be comfortable and I am normally well within the "large" size category. Not an XL in anything. I returned it but I could tell it was going to be a nice, warm winter parka. Bottom line, the fit is more European - more tailored and snug.

I used this heavy duty winter coat for going to work on the very cold mornings at the train stations and bus stops. Eider Smooth II winter coat waterproofing does keep me toasty warm and cozy. It helps me to stay dry during freezing rains, snows, and icy winds in Philadelphia, PA. The down parka is advantage for keeping my hearing-aid dry. The Eider Smooth II winter coats needed more extra pockets - ideally to protect the public transportation tranfer tickets dry and within easy reach on lower arms sleeves (beneath the wrists). I highly recommendation for all men to use this Eider Smooth II winter coats with down parkas in completely waterproofing. This is the best product that men couldn't beat it! This winter coat does need special care in cleaning. It would be nice if Sierra Trading Post to sell spraying cans of waterproofing products.

I walk daily in St. Louis's wet winters. We get more freezing rain than snow in the winter, so the gortex+down are great features. I used to walk with base layers, sweat shirts, and a jacket, but now I can wear a base layer and this coat by itself. The only thing that I didn't like was the fur around the hood, but I simply unzipped it and pitched it. It looked really cheap. Speaking of cheap, I would never send 300 dollars on a coat for myself, but my wife has a North Face down parka and she insisted that I get this one. Later, I told her it was one of the greatest investments I had ever made. I would normally take a medium but we followed the size chart on the site and a large was appropriate. It gives me room to layer. Worth the money if you need a warm coat.

Quality parka--no doubt about it. High-grade down and fine craftsmanship. However, it it short on features (no waist drawcord, no way to secure neck from drafts, only four pockets) and there is not enough down. This is not a parka for really cold conditions. Reluctantly I am returning the two parkas I purchased, along with a cover letter.
