While it does not have an inner strap or something to keep it stable, keep the laptop from moving around inside the pack, it had enough of everything else I wanted in a commuter pack to make it a good choice for me. I drive to most places, so it's not knocked around. I walk 4 blocks and it doesn't feel like it's moving around in the pack. As an added precaution, I do place my laptop in a protective sleeve. It's very comfortable on my shoulders; doesn't feel heavy. As far as being weatherproof, most of us know that we can easily purchase a waterproof backpack rain/snow cover.

    • Cons: No Strap

I bought this pack to replace a Marmot daypack. My primary concern is laptop security--padding, weatherproofing, straps, etc. It's hard finding a good notebook backpack that doesn't look like a notebook backpack, and while this pack comes close, it goes wide of the mark--literally. The laptop compartment is elusive. It took me a few minutes of going over each seam before I discovered the zipper running vertically along the side. It opens to reveal a space roughly the size of the entire back by about 2" deep. It's huge. You could smuggle a medium pizza in it and still have room for a 14" laptop. The problem is the lack of straps to secure the notebook once inside. That, and the padding separating the laptop sleeve from the main compartment is almost non-existent. So, unless your laptop is the size of Shakespeare's Complete Works, it's going to get tossed around. And that's the enemy of notebook longevity. Contrary to the first review, the laptop compartment is simply too big. I suspect the reviewer mistook the external organizer pouch for the notebook sleeve, which I admittedly did when I first opened it. It's a shame because the overall quality is present in spades. Taped seams along the gadget pouch zippers, nice, smart straight zipper lines for quick opening, comfortable straps. It's a good pack. Just not what I'm looking for.

Asked on 6/2/2011 12:00:00 AM by Kansan from Unknown
    • Answer This is a standard sized backpack for day trips or school. If you plan on packing very little it would be ok, but I would recommend something with a little more capacity and support such as an internal frame and more padded waist belt.
