Eureka Forte SQ 2XT Tent - 2-Person, 3-Season

I received the "Timberline" SQ 2XT Tent, not the "Forte", which is a more expensive, little heavier tent. Returned due to the rainfly being impossible to properly fit on the spreader bar. If not for that defect, I probably would have just kept it.

On paper this looks like a great tent, great price. Got it home, tried setting it up. It comes with three extra pole pieces, each about 8 inches long. Two are for propping the ends of the fly, one has no explanation in the directions. I can envision easily losing these small poles in the dark or when packing up. This is why shock corded poles were invented! The poles fit into pins at the bottom of the tent (standard for Eureka) but the pins are much smaller in diameter than the poles which causes excessive stress on the poles. I would expect these to fail prematurely, but only at the worst possible moment. For these two reasons, small parts and excessive pin/pole stress, I returned the tent, never used it in the field.

The tent poles were too long. I used a hack saw to cut down the top cross pole and the two poles that keep the rain guard above the top vents. After cutting down the poles, the tent works great.

Very nice tent, the only bad thing I can say about it is that the cross bar seems to be about 1/2" too long and can be difficult to install. Maybe it will get easier as I use it more.
