Verified Buyer Reviewed by catman from ohio on Saturday, December 6, 2014this rod looks and feels great! I cant wait to try it ! The delivery company sucks though. The box it came in was broken so bad that the only thing holding it together was the pole.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Mike A. from VA on Saturday, September 6, 2014Anyone who has one (or more - this is my third) of the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rods knows what absolutely great rods they are. So I was very happy to see them at STP at a great price. Unfortunately, mine arrived with the tip slightly damaged during shipping and now they're sold out so not sure what I'll do. Still useable but I have no confidence that it won't snap when stressed at some point. Hopefully they'll get more in so I can do an exchange.
In any case, all of the Elite Tech Smallmouth rods fish way over their price point. Very sensitive, responsive, and light. The 6'3" MF spinning rod weighs 3.2 oz. Excellent feel and finish. If you could somehow cover the name and hand it to someone and tell them that it was a higher-end brand and cost +$100 more, pretty much nobody would question it. May not be quite at the level of my St. Croix Legend rods but it's not that far off. I like them better than my Avids, Loomis GL2s and Bronzebacks, and similar level rods. So call them equivalent to somewhere in between those. The spinning rods are a built lighter than the casting but still have enough backbone to manage good sized fish. This one is rated to 3/4 oz, but I'd say that's pushing it. It may do it but 1/2 oz is about the most that I'd try to throw. I'm not as much of a fan of the handle design on the casting rods but on the spinning it's great. Very comfortable.
Bottom line, if they come back in stock, then buy it. Period. You will not be disappointed.
Reviewed by Painteddeer from Indianapolis on Wednesday, June 26, 2013This is a stiff 8 weight rod that could be used for just about anything. It casts smoother and farther than my 7, 6 or 3/4 weight rods. The true test will be how it handles Northern Pike in the Boundary Waters or the Flats of Florida in the coming weeks. But for the price, $69, how could you go wrong?
