I am a chimney sweep and climb roofs every day. I'm also a climber and mountaineer. I've used many different brands of shoes. I really like the sticky cats. They are supportive, sticky, and have proven durable.

A great buy. Sure footed on different types of terrain. Good support for carrying up to 40-50 lbs on short approaches. Sent a few easy slab routes with no problem.

I mostly use these for short approaches to rock climbs, generally class 3-4 stuff. They are comfortable and the vibram rubber seems pretty durable. Sizing seems about right -- I wear size 10 US shoes / boots mostly and these fit me well. They are comfortable for longer dayhikes too.

I used this shoe for light hiking and everyday use. The large front rubber cap and the general lack of flexibility when walking/hiking tore two holes on the top front sides of the right shoe. I've rarely had this happen and never so quickly (2 months).

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Unlike other hiking shoes which may focus more on design, Garmont products are orthopedically designed to provide extreme comfort from the moment you put them on. The asymmetrical lacing system and the design of the ankle collar are matched to the anatomy of your foot. I am surprised other manufacturers have not thought of these issues before. Prior to purchasing the Sticky Cat shoes, I bought a Garmont Gore Tex pair of boots from a local store and paid full price. They are so good, I would have no hesitation paying retail for them. To get them at a discount is phenomenal.

Good for hiking. Also you can wear with jeans. I mostly use this one for causal. I like it. Size is true size. If you have slightly wide feet, do not buy this. Overall it is a great shoe.

Wore the shoes twice. One hike/scramble up Blodgett Peak, and then on an approach in the Flatirons. They're approach shoes, right? So you'd expect them to hold up to scrambling and approaches. They don't. The sole of one of the shoes is coming apart under the arch and on the other shoe, the rubber toe piece is peeling off. Garbage.
