Got these shoes for work, walking the dogs, hiking in the woods. I don't trail run but I'm sure these shoes would do fine. The fit great right out of the box and the speed lace feature is awesome! I'm usually an 8 or 8.5 with normal to a little wider width foot. Ordered 8.5 and it fits perfectly! Can't imagine getting a much better shoe for the money.

I was looking for an all-around AT boot that I could use for AT skiing at our closed ski areas in the spring, plus regular season skiing, and some true backcountry. This is the boot. It fits better and is more confortable and ajustable than my downhill Lange boots. I'm happy with them.

This shoe is oversized, for some reason, but I'm keeping my 9, which feels like a 9.5 or 10, even so. With thick socks they'll be fine for walking the dogs in the winter. The price was right: Garmont is a great brand and holds up a lot better than the Teva or Kamuk shoes I've had in the past.

By Nette in the MountainsVerified Purchaser from Cullowhee, NC on 02/23/2012
    Pros:
    Delivered on time
    Cons:
No wide width, NOT for flat feet, Not typical size, Paid extra shipping
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Garmont 9.81 Escape Trail Running Shoes (For Men)was rated in the top 10 of shoes for people with flat feet. It is not avaialbe in a wide width. Ordered for my boyfriend anyway thinking that this shoe must have a wide width if it was recommended for flat feet. Once received, my boyfriend could not get his foot halfway into this shoe. The sole is not designed for flat feet. Returned this shoe but had to pay and additional $5.95 for shipping.

Purchased these because reviews indicated a wider toe box, which I need because of bilateral arthritic toes. I ordered my size, but the toe box, while wide, was not deep (high) enough, so I exchanged them for a half-size up. LOVE THEM! The elastic lacing system makes for quick adjusting, and there is a clever "pocket" to tuck the laces and adjuster into for a smooth look and no loose laces to catch burrs, etc. The loops on that pocket and on the heel are big enough to fit a finger, unlike some other shoes. While the lugs/treads are not very deep, they are suitable for running or hiking on trails. Excellent support, including lateral, and work well with orthotics. They have all the features I want in an outdoor shoe (except waterproof). I also like the look of the plain black shoe. I'll be getting a lot of use out of these!
