Gloverall Classic Duffle Coat (For Women)

Was expecting a fabric similar to a pea coat, which this was, in part replacing. The coat has a softer hand, a more supple drape and a general "fleece"ier quality to it. This may have led some of the reviewers to describe it as thin or flimsy. I disagree. The weave is tight. Ordered it during spring, but confident that it will perform as expected and hoped for: as a blanket with some shape and some sleeves. It is not performance, "I'm gonna climb up a mountain and then ski down it" wear. It IS " I live in a town that gets cold and I want sometime long enough and warm enough and good looking enough to get around in that town" wear. It works for a public transportation commute, a holiday party, or standing around somewhere cold, like a February cookout or some mid-winter outdoor theater. Also, the cranberry is redder than pictured. Gripes? The wife could have gone for a zipper. Sizing notes: my wife is heavy chested, and somewhat broad shouldered. Alot of coats that are not cut JUST RIGHT end up looking a bit like a church bell on the bottom half or entirely shapeless. This is not a tailored coat, but it manages to hang in way that presents itself and the wearer in a straightfoward, not trying to hard, and therefore not failing kinda way. The hood is adjustable and seems functional, but when tightened down, it does look either cute or silly, depending on your mood. Would give it 5 stars if the hood was either detachable or more elegant. If the hood was detachable or worked a bit better, it give 5 stars.

Replacing a Gloverall duffle I've had for a long time. This doesn't measure up to my old one.

This duffel coat is not the classic Gloverall quality but is light and flimsy. British sailors would have frozen if their coats were this light!

I've worn the coat every day since I got it. It's soft, warm wool. Although it feels lightweight, it's very warm and blocks the wind. I would buy it again.

I have a Gloverall Duffle Coat that I purchased in 1987. It is finally getting threadbare, and I really wanted a new one. They are very hard to find. The new Duffle Coat seems to be just as good as the old one. It is constructed in almost the same way - the 80% wool, 20% nylon fabric has a plaid interior face and solid color exterior - it is double faced. I got the camel color. The wool is a tight weave, and very wind resistant. It is just like a wearing a warm blanket..

Overall, this is a high quality coat, should have brought in a larger size. The medium fits well, but the large would be more comfortable because I wear bulky sweaters. four stars

I am tall and slender, so the width around the torso seems too large, however the shoulders and sleeves are perfect. The extra room allows for a heavy sweater underneath. This coat is a lot warmer than it would appear. I did add a heavy duty snap above the top toggle which keeps the neckline closed. I had one of these as a child and have been looking for another one for over 60 years. This is an excellent buy.

I bought this for my wife for Xmas. She loved it, the color, the fit. But when she put it on it was very, very light weight. She thought it was a fleece blanket. It would work great for a spring/fall coat but not for our harsh Minnesota winters. Sadly, we returned it.

granted that it is heavy but when the wind blows it works very well It might be too long for short women. i am 5/9 so it works well

I really wanted an old-fashioned wool coat in a color that wasn't black, gray, navy, brown or red. I also didn't want anything tight-fitting or fussy. This coat in green is pretty and warm but not heavy and stiff. It's comfortable on windy cold streets and in a heated car. We're in a blizzard weather pattern here now and I wear this coat instead of my down jacket.
