I'm not new to solar. I have had solar on my camper for years. These panels are great and are perfect for camping, hiking, motorcycle and so on.

Do your research on solar and what it can be used for. More importantly understand what it CAN'T do. This is not the same as brining your 120v house outlet with you.

One panel was able to change a GZ bolt flashlight, Samsung S4 or a headlamp. Two panels connected were able to change my iPhone 5. Two panels connected were also able to charge my S4 and bolt flash light with no issue.

Ordered 2 of these, 1 for each of us along with 1 Guide 10 Plus battery pack to share.
Lightweight and extremely durable, well built. These solar panels are amazing! Fast charge of flashlights, Motorola Talkabout radios, and a Photon smartphone,,, all in just a few hours. I charged the Guide 10 battery pack on a wall charge whilst testing the solar panels on the other items.
    All together, a Great Purchase!!!

Picked this item up for my son for a trip to Belize. He was off the grid for his week long stay, but apparently could not be without his iPod. Because I am over-indulgent, and probably represent all that is wrong with parents today, I bought this charger for him. He tells me that it worked like a charm and all the other kids on the trip used it too. We do a fair bit of camping so I'm sure this will come in handy in the future.

Recieved 2 Goal Zero Nomad 7s not it original boxes. Upon opening to see if the panels where damaged. I noticed a heavy chalky film on the screens. Both panels had the static screen protectors. So the residue was underneath the protectors. This seemed very odd since I already own a Goal Zero Nomad that did not appear like these two I just received. Trying to save myself from making a return. I tried wiping the panels down with a cotton face cloth. Did not make much progress with removing the haze. But now noticed a small divot on the screen. So fed up with my purchase I notified customer service and asked if these are refurbished Goal Zero Nomads. They told me that these are high first quality products. Sierra Tarding Post needs better quality control for there products leaving to be shipped out to willing purchasers. I will be writing an update to this review. But as of now I am very disappointed with this purchase.

  • Question “Does this come with a battery pack, or does it require one to work?”
Asked on 3/21/2014 10:27:07 AM by HighMtnHiker from Colorado
    • Answer You can charge one 9 volt item and one USB item right off the solar panel. However ,you really need to buy the guide 10 plus power pack if you want to charge your phone or a second item. For example, I charge the power pack during the day and charge my cell phone from it when I get to camp, I then plug in my Garmin to the solar panel. If you only want to charge just one USB item from the solar panel you don't need the Guide 10 plus . but for versatility, you certainly do want the Guide 10 Plus. the other nice thing about having the guide 10 Plus Pack is you can't take it with you to work or job site in case your phone needs a charge. Furthermore, goal zero suggests one always charges their cell phone off the power pack not the solar panel.

    • Answer Mine did not come with a battery pack, but you don't need one. I actually bought a relatively inexpensive battery pack from Radio Shack and used the solar panel to charge it and the phone at the same time. That way I had the battery pack as a backup if I needed it at night. It worked like a charm.
